Whether it's pearls, diamonds or Pandora for your sweetheart, local jewelers and gift shops have just the right Valentine's Day gift.

At Gray's Jewelers, 2011 Mall Drive, Suite 1, partner Mike Murrah says most men are going to look at Valentine's Day with a more conservative approach in comparison to their jewelry purchases at Christmas.

"The biggest seller now are pearls. They are making a big comeback, particularly freshwater pearls," he said.

They come in different shapes.

"They don't get nearly to the perfect round of an Akoya pearl or a cultured pearl. However, they are perfecting the freshwater pearls close to that. They are very pretty and a fraction of the price."

Lake Biwa in Japan produces freeform pearls.

Gray's Jewelers offers freshwater pearls that come in many shapes and colors.

"They actually come in different colors that are natural," Murrah said. "Pink, beige, gray, those are very popular. They come with matching earrings and bracelets. It is a really popular item for us this time of year and it fits a dozen roses price range. This is a proven item because it fits that price range."

Jessica Sparks, assistant manager and Fan Fare Gifts & Boutique, says the shop has gifts for every taste or interest.

Pandora jewelry, which did a new launch of items earlier this year, are strong sellers, she said. The new line up includes hearts. Brighton items are also popular.

There is a wide selection of candles, soaps, Candy Club items and and Jon Hart handbags, accessories and travel items.

BruMate is a collection of can coolers and insulated tumblers to keep drinks at the perfect temperature.

Fan Fare is located at 2315 Richmond Road No. 95.

At Crocker's Jewelers, store manager Melissa Douglass said choices abound to make her Valentine's Day sparkle.

Heart jewelry is shaping up to be a big seller in this season of love. Diamond stud earrings are also a popular choice.

One of the most popular brands Crocker's carries is Lagos, which allows women to craft and create their own look, including stakable bracelets.

Stackable rings are also popular.

"It's your own piece, not like anybody else's, you can mix the colors of metal and give it your own sense of style," Douglass said of the stackable items.

They have an extensive collection of Gabriel & Co. jewelry as well.

Douglass says yellow gold fashion jewelry is also a hot seller now.

Crocker's is located at 3908 St. Michael Drive.
