TEXARKANA - Roads in Texarkana remain dangerous today, after a second winter storm dumped several more inches of snow on the area Wednesday.

A winter storm warning remains in effect until noon today, according to the National Weather Service in Shreveport.

Wintry precipitation is expected to be primarily snow along and north of Interstate 30, a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain around the Interstate 20 corridor, and primarily freezing rain over Deep East Texas and central Louisiana, according to NWS.

Total snow accumulations of up to 6 inches are forecast across Texarkana and southwest Arkansas.

Travel remains difficult in most of the region and any recent improvement was lost once the new event started.

"The roads in Texarkana are still slick," said Shawn Vaughn, spokesman for the Texarkana Texas Police Department.

Vaughn said the new snow was creating a little cushion above the ice on Wednesday but that was not expected to last long as the snow would refreeze.

Refreezing could cause the streets to be in very bad condition this morning.

TxDOT Atlanta-District Spokesman Marcus Sandifer said on Wednesday that snow plows were out on Interstate-30. Traffic was moving slow on I-30 but people were still cautioned to stay home if possible.

"It's very bad but we are doing what we can. It's going to continue to be bad until the sun comes out and the temperatures go up," Sandifer said.

If anyone must travel, they keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in their vehicle in case of an emergency.

Temperatures could possibly be above freezing today, according to the weather service. The high today is forecast to reach 36 degrees. Sun is forecast for Friday with a high temperature of 34.

"We are definitely looking at a warming trend this weekend," said Gary Chatelain, meteorologist with NWS Shreveport.
