Police nab suspect in parking lot slaying

TEXARKANA, Texas - Texarkana murder suspect Marques Thompson has been arrested at a relative's home in Texarkana, Texas.

Thompson was arrested Tuesday in Texarkana, said Shawn Vaughn, spokesman for the Texarkana, Texas, Police Department.

Thompson was wanted in the Jan. 12 slaying of Nichols Muldrow in the Oaklawn Village parking lot.

He is in the Bi-State jail on a murder charge. He also has warrants for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, probation violation on aggravated assault and two felony warrants from Arkansas.

Thompson was added to the Texas Most Wanted list after the January shooting. He was considered very dangerous, according to police.

Thompson is the suspect in several violent crimes over the last several weeks including the shooting death of a man in a public parking lot in broad daylight and the shooting of another man in two separate occasions.

Police are relieved that Thompson is in custody, Vaughn said.

"He was obviously a threat to the safety of our community and those who live here. We commend the efforts of our detectives and officers who have worked nonstop to locate and arrest Thompson," Vaughn said. "We also appreciate the assistance that Texas DPS troopers have provided throughout the investigation and their decision to add him to the Texas Most Wanted List.

"It has definitely been a collaborative effort."
