Ashdown band members named as Four States Bandmasters

The selected members are Dustin Green, Braydon Porter, Tryston McCandless, Caylee Turner and Liza Embry.

Band Director Mark Pounds said this accomplishment was indicative of the hard work his band students put in this year.

"It's always an honor to have students chosen to represent the best of the best in the four states area," Pounds said. "It is absolutely a testament to the hard work and dedication that each individual student puts into their craft and to their home band program."

Not to mention, a lot of this hard work came during a pandemic that Pounds said was a great challenge for him and his students.

"This year has been different on so many levels," he said. "The Four States Bandmasters were able to recognize the students from the area schools, but the normal three days of chair placement auditions, rehearsals with other four states band members, concerts for parents and the community wasn't a possibility with this year's COVID challenges. The students got the patch and recognition, but not the experience."

While the experience didn't exactly meet normal expectations, he said it doesn't change the fact that this is something to be proud of in the

long run.

"I am very proud of all my students who have hung in there and worked so hard to meet expectations this year," Pounds said.
