Small amount of school cases reported this month

There were a low number of COVID-19 cases reported among Texas school districts since Feb. 8, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services, largely because of student holidays and weather complications.

For the reporting period of Feb. 8-21, only three school districts in Cass and Bowie counties reported cases - Texarkana, Red Lick and Hughes Spring Independent School Districts.

Texarkana ISD reported three staff cases, bringing its staff total to 208 since July 27; Red Lick reported one staff case, making a total of 20; and Hughes Springs added one staff member, now adding up to a total of 31.

Pleasant Grove, Redwater, Texarkana, Hughes Springs and Linden-Kildare CISD all had slightly increased student totals from previous reports, despite not reporting new cases. This is likely due to late reporting errors.

Queen City ISD still holds the highest total on-campus student positivity rate in Cass at 5.2%, while Bloomburg is the lowest at just over 3.6%.

Red Lick's rate is still the highest among either county at around 9.4% - no other district is above 5.5%. Simms remains the lowest at 0.64%.

All new cases were reported with a source of infection of either off-campus or unknown.
