Flake News: Area could see snow Sunday, Monday

The potential of snow across most of the area Sunday night into early Monday morning is a likely scenario.

Texarkana could receive about one inch of snow, according to the National Weather Service in Shreveport.

"The cold air is already in place, so things are lining up for us to get some snow," said Matt Hemingway, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Shreveport.

However, there is still uncertainty with the system and estimates and predictions are still subject to change.

The precipitation is expected to begin Sunday afternoon as rain and then become a rain/snow mix later Sunday, according to NWS.

"Rain will be moving in from the east and as the atmosphere cools, the precipitation should mix with snow," Hemingway said.

"We do think there could be some accumulation," Hemingway said. He estimated the Interstate-30 corridor could receive between one and two inches.

The forecast is predicting about a 50% chance of precipitation late Sunday. The low temperature should stay around the freezing mark.

The conditions for freezing rain are not favorable, Hemingway said.

The snow is expected to move west of our area by mid-morning Monday.

The high temperature Monday may reach 40 degrees but could likely stay in the 30s.

Sunshine and higher temperatures are expected starting Tuesday, according to the NWS.
