TEXARKANA, Ark. — Tri-State Iron & Metal Company has acquired A-1 Auto Salvage, a local used auto parts provider. The deal was concluded last week, according to the company. The acquisition expands Tri-State's presence in the auto recycling industry.

"The acquisition makes sense for us," said Howard Glick, chairman and CEO of Tri-State Iron & Metal, which installed an automobile shredder in 2006. "This benefits our community, our environment and our company."

According to Johnny Nonmacher, the company's director of divisions, it did not take long to put the deal together.

"The rise of scrap metal prices helped things along," he said. "With this acquisition, we will be expanding capacity at Pickers Texarkana and TSIMCO for the additional volume of materials."

The A-1 facility will be cleaned up and offered for sale.

Pickers Self-Service Auto Parts has locations in Texarkana, Reno and Longview, Texas, and Shreveport.

(Pickers address is at 5512 E. 9th St., its phone: 870-772-1880.)
