TEXARKANA - The Texas Eagle line that runs from Chicago to San Antonio, with a stop in Texarkana, will soon resume a seven-day-a-week schedule, according to Marc Magliari, Amtrak public relations spokesman. The new schedule begins May 24. "The route was reduced to three days a week in October of last year," he said. "But as we emerge from COVID and with increased demand coming as well as increased funding, this has warranted the Texas Eagle return to its seven-day-a-week schedule."

COVID-19 relief funds will also allow Amtrak to bring back 1,200 furloughed employees, whose services will be secured at least partially through 2022.

"Offering daily long distance service represents a vital step in our road to recovery," said Amtrak CEO Bill Flynn. "Recognizing the immense value of our employees, we'd like to thank Congress for enabling service restoration and helping us recall furloughed employees."

Texas Eagle is one of 12 routes that will return to a daily schedule, the company announced recently.
