Crossing guard struck on Summerhill Road, suffers minor injuries

TEXARKANA, TEXAS - A Texas High School crossing guard received minor injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Summerhill Road about 8:15 a.m. Monday.

The 21-year-old crossing guard had stopped northbound traffic to let a GMC Yukon out of a business parking lot that is directly across the street from the high school, said Shawn Vaughn, spokesman for TTPD.

When the driver of the Yukon realized that traffic had stopped, he proceeded to turn left.

But an 18 wheeler was stopped in the outside northbound lane of Summerhill Road.

Preliminary information indicates the driver of the Yukon could not see the crossing guard while making the left turn because of  the 18 wheeler.

The crossing guard was taken to CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital with what appeared to be only minor injuries. No citations were issued
