TEXARKANA, Ark. - Total Access Health and Wellness will open soon and is now taking appointments. The primary care clinic will begin seeing patients Sept. 7 and has already booked for the first week, according to owner and nurse practitioner, Sam Nix.

"We can offer aid for various diseases, high blood pressure, conduct minor medical procedures, like sutures, IVs, check for various maladies, including COVID," said Nix. "We can deal with minor emergencies, pregnancies and more."

Nix is a graduate of University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences as a family nurse practitioner and has completed a post master's certification in emergency medicine. He is currently working on his Doctorate of Nursing Practice at UAMS and is scheduled to graduate in the Spring of 2022.

He has worked in medicine for more than 23 years and among the positions he has worked in includes flight nurse, emergency room nurse and house supervisor. He currently has privileges as a nurse practitioner at both Wadley Hospital and CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital.

Trained as a nurse practitioner, Nix combines scientific processes of assessment and diagnosis with a holistic approach to managing patient care, with the goal of enhancing overall well-being, aimed at root cause, not just treating symptoms.

The clinic is positioned to "fill a need," Nix said.

"We are here to take care of the community and its needs," he said. "Most of the clinics of this sort have opened up on the Texas-side. So we are there to make sure this side of state line is taken care of."

(Total Access Health and Wellness is located at 3808 E. 9th St, Suite 15.)
