Bowie County joins effort to develop 'talent pipeline' here

NEW BOSTON, Texas - Bowie County has agreed to work with the Texarkana Regional Chamber of Commerce and Miller County to become a certified ACT Work Ready Community partner to help match qualified, talented employees with employers.

Besides employers, this program is also aimed at helping local economic developers, along with the county's future population, according to a statement released Thursday by the Chamber.

"This will be a regional effort to develop a talent pipeline for our employers - and Bowie County is excited to support this initiative," said Bowie County Judge Bobby Howell in prepared statement. "The ACT Work Keys National Career Readiness Certificate is the basis for industry-driven efforts that link education, workforce and economic development."

To start the process, community leaders recently attended the ACT Work Ready Community Boot Camp, which is an executive leadership and training program designed to start, deploy and drive efforts to improve the area's readiness.

Those who attended the boot camp included Jennifer Harland, chairman of the Chamber's board of directors, Randy Reed, executive director for Workforce Solutions of Northeast Texas, Bart Spivey, program manager for Workforce Solutions of Northeast Texas and Robin Bass, business retention and expansion director for the chamber.
