TEXARKANA, Ark. - Miller County officials are looking at buying a building they're renting at 409 Hazel St.
The Miller County Quorum Court's Budget and Finance Committee met recently to consider buying the building that houses their Veterans Service Office, along with the County Coroner's Office and Office of Emergency Management.
All three offices had to be relocated after the Courthouse flooding earlier this year.
"This building is serving more than two offices, so it's a win-win situation if we buy the whole property," said District 2 Justice of the Peace Janet Green as she recommended committee members should move forward with the purchase.
Records show the property's market value is $187,000. Finance Committee Chairman Ernest Pender said, however, he would first like to have the building both appraised and inspected.
"Just having the building appraised doesn't tell you everything. We need it inspected," he said.
Committee members have also considered adding renovations to the building's interior, which could bring the total cost up to $250,000. These funds could potentially come from some American Rescue Act grant money the county received earlier this year, related to COVID-19.
Committee members agreed to bring the building purchase idea before the full Quorum Court during the Court's next regular meeting on Sept. 13.
