Deena Smith, 69, of Texarkana, TX passed away December 16, 2018 at her home. She was born in Graham, TX on October 23, 2018. She was extraordinary. She loved to volunteer. She loved her family. She loved Red Hat Society girls, the Red Hattituders and T-Town Girls. Deena was selfless and loved to be needed. Always wanted to put a smile on people's faces. She was a patient and devoted listener. She loved so many and let each of them know. As a volunteer for CIMA hospice, she often spent time chatting with the stranger on the other end of the line, just getting to know them, bringing hope in fragile times. She loved TCM, Frank Sinatra, and was a sucker for a quality handbag sale. She gave the most thoughtful gifts. A modern beauty queen, she always had perfectly manicured nails and a meticulously styled pixie cut, stylishly paired with statement earrings. She was creative and young at heart. Her dining table was styled with red boas, ribbons and rhinestones. Her red hat creations were fit for a queen. She raved about her red hat sisters who made her beam with joy. She was dedicated. She fought—and beat—polio when she was only three. She loved her family fiercely, regularly telling people how proud she was of each. Deena leaves behind many who will love her forever. Survivors include her daughter, Dr. Jennifer Thompson and her son-in-law, Dr. Doug Thompson of Texarkana, TX; grandchildren, Elena and Caden Thompson of Texarkana, TX; nephew, Ronnie Bransom and his wife, Jackie of Arlington, TX; and niece, Yvonne Layne of Austin, TX, and many other loving family and friends. Memorial Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, December 22, 2018 at East Funeral Home - Moores Lane in Texarkana, TX. Online tributes may be made at www.eastfuneralhomes.com.
