Mrs. Effie Ann Mitchell, 72, of Texarkana, Texas slept peacefully into the Lord's embrace, Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at her residence. Mrs. Mitchell was born November 21, 1946 to the late George and Goldie Sweat in Weiner, Arkansas. She attended high school in Jonesboro, Arkansas at Booker T. Washington School. She completed college receiving a BS Degree in Education at AM & N (University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff), Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She received her master's degree from Henderson State University. In 1966, while attending AM & N she met her husband, Clemis Ray Mitchell whom she married in 1969. Upon completion of her husband, Clemis Ray's military career, they moved to Texarkana, Texas where she was employed by the Texarkana Arkansas School District for twenty-eight and a half years. She was a member of the National Education Association. Effie accepted Christ at an early age where she attended the Church of God In Christ in Weiner, Arkansas. After her marriage she joined New Zion Baptist Church, Texarkana, Arkansas where she served as a deaconess. Her life's journey led her to Church on the Rock where she was part of the Bible Study Ministry. Effie loved life, people, ceramics and her flower garden. A legacy of life and love will forever be cherished in the hearts of her husband, Clemis Mitchell of Texarkana, Texas; one brother, Douglas (Barbara) of Pawhanna, AR and one sister, Shirley Hubbard of Memphis, TN. Effie additionally leaves a host of nieces, nephew, cousins and friends. A "Celebration of Life" service for Mrs. Effie A. Michell will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 6, 2019 at Church on the Rock with Pastor John Miller officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be 10:00-11:00 a.m. Friday, at the church. Burial will be in New Zion Cemetery, Texarkana, AR.
