On Tuesday, August 4, 2020, surrounded by those who loved him most, Lee Roy Hathaway went to his heavenly home. Roy was born October 16, 1930, to Lester and Ruth Hathaway in Mobeetie, TX. He grew up there and helped his parents farm wheat and raise cattle. He spent his life continuing to raise cattle and later also raised chickens for Pilgrim's Pride. He enjoyed this agriculture life and spent his later years riding around the place on his beloved Kubota checking the cows and determining when the hay needed to be harvested. On May 12, 1951, he married Loita Ernestine Martin. They were happily married for 69 years and raised two girls, Lorinda and Benita. They raised these girls with solid Christian values thereby fostering an environment where their grandchildren and great-grandchildren would learn about God and hard work—both things Roy believed were necessary for a successful life. Through everything, he instilled in them that he was always there for triumphs and failures—he was a constant strength for his family. Roy believed in helping those in need. He was always stopping to help anyone who was stranded on the side of the road like a modern-day Good Samaritan and taught his children that helping others was the only way to live. He was the unlicensed country veterinarian for the neighborhood. He is survived by his wife Loita Martin Hathaway of Queen City, TX, his brother, Paul Hathaway, and wife, Patsy, of Mobeetie, TX, his daughter Lorinda Clark and husband, Ronnie of Queen City, TX, his daughter, Benita Williamson, and husband, Mike, of Murfreesboro, AR. His grandchildren, Laronda Graf and husband Corey of Queen City, TX, Heath Clark and wife, Amanda, of Keithville, LA, Jeric Griffin and wife, Brittani, of Lindale, TX, Braven Griffin and wife, Sarah, of Seattle, WA, Kristi Kirkwood and husband, Andy, of Fouke, AR, Casie Fischer, and husband, Lynn, of Texarkana, TX, Jacob Williamson, and wife, Taylor of Nashville, AR. Great-grandchildren Ty, Boston, Cass, Jolie, Kyle, Ashton, Josie, Jett, Myla, Jonathan, Kaden, Blakely, Cannon, Case, Cooper, and Piper, and a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Hanner Funeral Service in Atlanta, TX. A private funeral will be held Friday in the Hanner Funeral Chapel. Immediately following the service, burial will be at the Queen City Cemetery in Queen City, TX. Guest registry is available at www.hannerfuneralservice.com.
