He leaves to cherish his memory his two sons, and their wives, Fred and Karen Southerland, of Foreman, and Ron and Melinda Southerland, of McKinney, Texas. He was blessed to leave a dynasty of four living grandchildren, Karen K. McMahen, (Joel), of Walkerville, Arkansas, Jason Southerland,(Stacey), Shane Southerland (Bron), both of Foreman, and Amanda Hall (Chad), of Prosper, Texas, as well as 10 great grandchildren, 5 with spouses, and 7 great great grandchildren. Mr. Southerland was born April 30th, 1925, in Vanndale, Arkansas, and grew up in Poyen, Arkansas, marrying his childhood sweetheart, July 2nd, 1945, a union of 66 years until her passing in 2012. He was a veteran of both World War II, and the Korean Conflict. The family relocated to Foreman in 1958, where he was an early employee of the newly formed Arkansas Cement Corporation. He served there in various supervisory roles until his retirement in 1985. He was an ordained Deacon in the Southern Baptist Church for nearly 50 years, and was a leader in Foreman First Baptist and Crossroads Baptist during that time. The family extends its grateful appreciation to the staff of Little River Nursing and Rehab, and in particular, to his physician, Dr. Dean Bowman. Due to the current medical crisis, a small graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2020, at 10:30 at Marvin Cemetery with Rev. Don Jones officiating. There will be a later memorial event and celebration of his remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends contribute, or perform an act of service to the charity of your choice.
