George Harmon Rodgers passed away on January 21, 2020 at the age of 83. He was born on April 18th, 1936 in Texarkana, AR to John and Ethel Rodgers. He was a country boy who loved the outdoors. After serving in the Army, he began a career in corrections with the Federal Bureau of Prisons at FCI Texarkana, and his career tookhis family all over the country, including New York, California, Colorado, and Texas. During his years with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, he was decorated for bravery and leadership, and upon his retirement, "The Rodgers Plaza" was built on the grounds of FCI Seagoville, TX for years of outstanding service. He retired at the age of 50 and returned to Texarkana to raise beef cattle on the family farm, as he was first and foremost a cowboy . Faith and family were important to George, and he attended Wake Village Baptist Church and taught Sunday School well into his later years. A character inspired by George, "Marvin Roberts," was portrayed by actor Don Hartman in the faith-based film Texas Rein. Three years ago a massive stroke left George cognitively and physically impaired, so even as we mourn his loss, we rejoice that he is whole again and in the presence of his Savior Jesus Christ. George is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia, his son and daughter in law, David and Anita Rodgers of Wake Village, TX, his daughter and son in law, Becky and James Boyette of Staunton, VA, and three grandchildren - Austin, Wes, and Arielle Boyette, also of Staunton, VA. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the Chapelwood Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scott Neathery officiating. Private burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church, Wake Village Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. "And when I reach my final day, He will not leave me in the grave. But I will rise, He will call me home. The Lord is my salvation." Keith and Kristyn Getty
