Helen Starling

On July 5, 1950 God blessed the world with Helen Marie Starling, a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. Born a DeKalb native, she attended Marvin Pynes High School. Helen accepted Christ at an early age which was a lifetime commitment. She served as Vice President of the Zion District Women's Mission Auxiliary. Helen was a member of the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church where she served as church clerk, President of the Usher Board, Vacation Bible School Teacher, Youth Ministry Volunteer and President of the Women of Excellence Mission Auxiliary. Helen was recognized by the Marvin Pynes Alumni Association for outstanding service to the community. She also served as President of the DeKalb PTA, member of the Principal's Advisory Board, and Campus Planning Committee for DeKalb ISD. Helen was preceded in death by her (parents) BJ and Robert Marie Williams, (brother) Eddie Moore, (brother) Bradford Williams, (sister) Valadean Moore, and her beloved husband Willie Grady Starling, affectionately referred to as 'Boots.' On Tuesday, November 17, 2020, Helen completed her tasks on Earth and went home to be with the Lord. She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory four children: Tisha P. Williams, Cynthia L. Williams, Michael Williams and Dr. Maria V. Starling of Houston, Texas. She also leaves behind her adored grandchildren, three sisters, a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She will be greatly missed by all. Viewing for Mrs. Starling will be 12 2 PM today at Haynes Mortuary. Graveside services will be 11 AM Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at DeKalb Cemetery.
