After completing his assigned work on earth, Dr. Nathan Leland Dodd went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 25, 2020. He was the first born son of Nathan and Ivanelle Elizabeth Albin Dodd born in Fort Smith, Arkansas on January 11, 1944.He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James Kenneth Dodd. He graduated from Fort Smith North Side High School in 1962, attended Fort Smith Jr. College then graduated from Hendrix College in 1966. He obtained a Master of Science in agriculture at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, going on to earn a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Arkansas Medical Science in 1972 and completed the residency program in pathology in 1976.Before going into private practice, he served as Assistant Medical Examiner of Arkansas under Dr. Rodney Carlton and Assistant Professor of Pathology at UAMS. He entered private practice in 1977 in De Queen, Arkansas with coverage including Nashville Hospital.In 1980 he moved his practice to Hope, Arkansas and served as Medical Director of Pathology for the hospitals in Hope, Nashville, and Gurdon, Arkansas. In 1985 he moved to Texarkana, Texas and joined Dr. Rodney Carlton in partnership at Wadley Regional Medical Center where he remained until health issues forced his retirement in 1998. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, farming, and gardening. In 1996, he bought a farm in the Liberty Eylau community and enjoyed raising Angus cattle, Thoroughbred horses, and bees. He had a heart of generosity and helped many in his life, believing in the good in everyone. At times he was taken advantage of, but that never stopped him from helping the next person that came along with a need. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sherry, or "McGoo" as he affectionately called her; three children, Kate and her husband Travis Tokar of Aledo, Texas, Shannon McGough of Wake Village, Texas, and Greg McGough of Texarkana, Texas; 5 granddaughters, Jessica and Kacy McGough of De Queen, Arkansas, Sidney McGough of Wake Village, Texas, Olivia and Annika Tokar of Aledo, Texas; and a cousin, Sandra Parsons of Tulsa, Oklahoma. A celebration of life service will be at Heritage Church, 5801 N Kings Hwy, Texarkana, Texas under the direction of Chapelwood Funeral Home on Tuesday at 1:00pm. The family will receive friends at Heritage Church from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. The family requests that masks be worn due to health concerns.
