Roger Matlock, age 90, of Atlanta, Texas, went to be with the Lord Friday, December 3, 2021 in a local hospital. Roger was born December 29, 1930, in Plain Dealing, Louisiana to Alton and Nannie Lee Matlock. He was retired from International Paper Company. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Atlanta, and life-time member of the VFW-Veteran of Foreign Wars, the Atlanta Housing Department, Downtown Development, and the American Legion Post 258. Roger was the former director of the Atlanta Planning and Zoning Committee; was awarded Atlanta Man of the Year; and was also a member of the “Miles Education Committee”. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Audrey Lee Matlock; and his parents. Roger served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict, and was a Purple Heart Recipient. He served with Corporal Edwards who was his best friend and who he lost during the war. He is survived by his wife, Marcia Matlock of Atlanta, Texas; son, Roger Wayne Matlock and wife Linda of Lafayette, Louisiana; daughter, Lisa Lee Krueger and husband David of Bossier City, Louisiana; four grandchildren, Justin Bussey, Landon Bussey, Mallory Semanco, Brian Matlock; eleven great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives. Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Thursday, December 9, 2021 at First United Methodist Church, Atlanta, Texas, under the direction of Hanner Funeral service with Pastor Drew Weber and Pastor Evan Semanco officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 8, 2021 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Hanner Funeral Service. Graveside services will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Springhill Cemetery, Springhill, Louisiana.
