TOMMIE McELHINEY

Tommie Lynn McElhiney age 69, of Texarkana, Texas died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on November 30th 2021 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Tommie was born on May 24th, 1952 in Wichita Falls Texas and was a graduate of Ft Stockton High School in 1970. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Nashville, Tennessee where she met the love of her life and husband of 45 years, Pat McElhiney. Tommie was in law enforcement for over 30 years for the Wake Village Police Department and the Texarkana Texas Police Department where she was a beloved canine officer for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents Tom and Loreta Collins, and her husband Pat McElhiney.. Survivors include her 5 children: Brandy Collins of Lindale, Texas, Clint McElhiney(Rose) of Blue Ridge, Texas, Dustin McElhiney of Texarkana, Texas, Derek McElhiney of Texarkana, Texas and Kaitlin McElhiney Waits(Zachary) of McKinney, Texas and 13 grandchildren. She is also survived by her best friend and sister, Shera Collins Morgan. They shared a very unique and special bond that can never be broken. Besides spending time with her family, Tommie had a passion for animals and never met an animal that she didn’t love. She developed her love for animals early on as she was very involved with her father in raising horses and cattle and won many a barrel racing championship in her day. Cremation arrangements are pending and donations may be made to Texarkana Animal Shelter in her memory.
