Betty Hopkins McNeal was the 5th child of 8 born to Willie and Veola Hopkins on September 5, 1946, in Texarkana, TX. She answered the master’s call Thursday evening April 14, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Benjamin McNeal, one sister, Willie Mae Williams, one brother, Jimmy Ray Hopkins, and one daughter, Karen Haynes. Betty came from a strong Christian family in which she obeyed the gospel at an early age at the Lake Drive Church of Christ, today known as Atlanta Street Church of Christ. The minister was N.L. Evans. She was a graduate of Dunbar High School. After graduation she moved to California, employed 33 years for Kaiser Hospital. Years later after her husband’s death and retirement she moved back to Texarkana. Betty reunited with the church she grew up in and became involved in any way possible. She often taught VBS, worked in the kitchen, and helped with the food pantry. Betty is survived by: daughter, Dawn Rene Haynes of Texarkana, TX; son, Kevin McNeal of San Bernardino, CA; sister, Bobby Taylor of Texarkana, TX; brothers, Fred Hopkins (Pauline) of Little Elm, TX, Milton Hopkins (Melony) of Texarkana, TX, Robert Hopkins (Teri) of Paris, TX, and Michael Hopkins (Alfreda) of Texarkana, AR; aunt, Dorothy Chatman of Salt Lake City, UT; 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and close friends. Memorial services will be held 10 AM Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Atlanta Street Church of Christ.
