Harvey Nolan Cox, 83, of Texarkana, Texas, went to be with his Savior on Feb. 9, 2022, at a hospital in Dallas, Texas. Harvey was born in Red Hill, Texas, on Sept. 16, 1938, son of Bert and Ouida Cox. He grew up in the Red Hill community in Cass County, where he attended grade school in a one-room schoolhouse and graduated from Linden-Kildare High School in 1956. During this time the love of his life, Betty Ann Watson, caught his eye though she was three years behind him in school. He went out of state for a stint of Minor League Baseball in south Louisiana, but east Texas and Betty soon lured him back, and the two married in June 1959 in Linden, Texas. Their two oldest children were born in Linden before the couple settled in Texarkana to raise their family. Harvey worked at Cooper Tire for nearly three decades, starting in 1965 and retiring in 1993. He and Betty were members of Williams Memorial United Methodist Church, where they served as youth group sponsors and he coached the men’s softball team for years. Harvey also coached Little League Baseball, enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening, and was involved in several fraternal organizations. He was a Master Mason in Border Lodge 672. He helped organize a grief support group, THEOS (They Help Each Other Spiritually), in Texarkana after Betty passed away in December 1984. Harvey was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Watson Cox, and son, Kevin Royce Cox. He also was preceded in death by brothers Freddie Neil Cox, Jimmy Cox and Larry Cox and sister Imogene Jester. He is survived by daughter Karen Courtney Schmidt and husband Steve of Flower Mound, Texas; son Chris Nolan Cox and wife Carolyn of Lewisville, Texas; and seven grandchildren whom he loved dearly: Tyler and Lindsay Courtney, Colin and Christy Cox, and Brett, Reese and Olivia Cox. He is also survived by two brothers: Phillip Cox of Atlanta, Texas, and Richard Cox of Foreman, Arkansas, along with numerous sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Family visitation is at East Funeral Home on Moores Lane in Texarkana from 5–7 p.m. on Feb. 14. Celebration of Life service is on Feb. 15 at 10 a.m. at Williams Memorial United Methodist Church in Texarkana with Rev. Jesse Brannen officiating. Burial will be at Linden Cemetery in Linden at 2 p.m. Memorial gifts may be directed to Williams Memorial United Methodist Church..
