Jim Becker went home to Heaven on February 10, 2022 at the age of 96. He was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on June 1, 1925 to Arthur Edward and Mae Hawthorne Becker. He was a friend to many and generous with good humor. His gardens were always full of beautiful flowers and plants, which he loved to share with family and neighbors. He was also known for his stories about the animals he loved, which included dogs, goats, chickens and birds. He loved to cook and was always creating new recipes, many of them family favorites today. Jim served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1943 to 1946 as a radar operator and on his return to civilian life he worked at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque where all three of his brothers and their wives also worked. He married Marcy Baker in 1950 and they enjoyed a happy marriage for 66 years. When they retired, they started a very successful business, Jamar Enterprises, and traveled all around the New Mexico, Arizona, and Oklahoma area buying and selling authentic Native American jewelry and arts. After several years they moved to be with family in Houston, Texas where he worked at UPS in the customer service area for about 10 years. Jim and Marcy moved again to follow their family to Texarkana, Texas. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marcy and his three older brothers Ed, Chuck, and Bob. He will be greatly missed by his daughter Peggy and her husband Bill Wilkinson and daughter Debby and her husband Jay Butler. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Carrie and Mark Trusty and children Seth, Travis and Taylor; Jenny and John Butler and children Gabe and Marcy; Amy and Brad Guinn and daughter Ellie Mae; as well as Steven and Kristin Butler and children Eli and Briggs; Jeff and Courtney Butler and children Belle and Ford; and Aaron Butler and LouAnn. Mr. Becker received care from several doctors in his later years who were always patient and kind and did everything to help him enjoy life. He believed Jesus was his Savior and our family rejoices in his return to our Heavenly Father. The family will observe a private celebration of Jim’s life. If you desire, his favorite nonprofits were Harvest Texarkana and The Salvation Army. From the time he was a boy, his family was dedicated to helping others and he was always concerned about food and comfort for those who needed help.
