Mrs. DeShun “Shun” LaJena Casteel was born on December 21, 1972, in Texarkana, TX to Essie and Emma Jean Casteel. Shun was immersed with love and grew up in the cozy city of New Boston, TX, where she attended the Antioch Baptist Church with her family. In 1992, Shun graduated from New Boston High School. In 2001, Shun moved to the Dallas Metroplex and later graduated from the Air Traffic Control School while working at American Airlines. Shun always had a strong passion to drive professionally. She made a career change and dedicated the last 17 years towards driving various professional vehicle types to include driving for the United States Postal Service. Shun’s greatest desire and passion was to drive 18 wheelers. Her 5’5 frame mastered the road by controlling the largest of monster trucks. The name on the side of her truck was adequately titled “Lady Steel.” She drove predominantly within the United States of America, and she traveled to many states on multiple occasions. Driving was her life long dream. DeShun displayed high morals and standards. She respectfully acknowledged everyone with a greeting of “Yes Ma’am” and/or “No Ma’am”, even to younger individuals. She loved her family and especially adored her only brother, Reginald Austin, whom meant the world to her. Mrs. DeShun “Shun” LaJena Casteel is survived by to cherish her memories… Parents: Essie and Emma Casteel - New Boston, TX; Brother: Reginald DeWayne Austin - New Boston, TX; Grandmother: Stella Austin - Ft. Worth, TX. Also, an abundance of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and Loving Friends. Shun is and will always be loved and deeply missed, but NEVER forgotten! Visitation for DeShun will be 2:30 – 4:30 Thursday, February 17th at Haynes Mortuary. Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Friday, February 18th at Antioch Baptist Church in New Boston.
