S. L. Fuller

On Sunday, January 23, 2022, S. L. Fuller joined his wife, Carol Jean (Ross) Fuller and family and friends in Heaven. It seemed God needed a few more stories to tell the angels. There will be a graveside service at Corinth Cemetery in Linden, Texas at 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 28, 2022. Services are under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday, January 27, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. He was married to Carol Jean (Ross) Fuller for forty-nine years and six months upon her passing in May of 2014. He and Carol had two daughters, Felicia Fuller and Candace (Fuller) Pearson. Candace blessed them with two grandchildren, Ashton and Joshua, who were the focus of their love and affection. S. L. was born October 15, 1933, as Sebie Lee Fuller, Jr., in the farming community of Almira, Texas, as the thirteenth and youngest child of Sebie Lee Fuller, Sr., and Lillie Florence (Penny) Fuller. He graduated from Linden High School and went on to Paris Junior College with a football scholarship. He then went to East Texas State Teachers College on a vocal scholarship. After college, S. L. was drafted into the Army and went through basic training at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. After guided missile training, he served eighteen months in Ansbach, Germany. During this time, he was promoted to master sergeant. Upon discharge from the Army, S. L. returned to Linden, Texas, in 1958, where he began as a teacher and basketball coach in Avery, Texas. The following year he moved to Celeste, Texas, to be a teacher, coach, and elementary school principal. In 1961, he became a textbook salesman for Steck-Vaughn Publishing Company in Illinois. In 1963, he transferred back to a territory in Texas. He and Carol were married in 1964, and relocated to Greenville, Texas, where they remained for eight years, during which time they were blessed with the birth of Felicia and Candace. In 1971, he was made manager of the southeast region for Merrill Publishing Company and transferred to Atlanta, Georgia. He remained in Georgia until his final move back to Plano, Texas, in 1981. In Plano, S. L. remained active in the textbook industry until finally retiring form Perma-Bound Books. S. L. was in the business of selling educational materials for 53 years. In those years he was a representative for 16 years, regional manager for 21 years, and national manager for 16 years, working for eight different companies. He represented several major textbook companies and loved his worked. He was a Mason, a thirty third degree Scottish Rite member, life-long Baptist, and loved his wife, children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters and extended family. He never met a stranger. He loved to laugh, sing, and tell stories. He had a long and blessed life.
