James David Gimlin, age 81, passed away on January 24 2022 at Hospice of Texarkana surrounded by his loved ones. Jimmy was a lifelong resident of Liberty Eylau and member of Buchanan Methodist Church. He spent 30 years at Red River Army Depot before retiring to enjoy spending time with loved ones and traveling. He was most happy at home at the barn, in his garden or with his animals. He counted his beloved grandchildren as his greatest blessing in life and loved being their Papaw. He had a heart of gold and was always behind the scenes working to make someone’s life better or taking in animals who he cared for like family. He fought a good fight. He lived a simple life, however Jimmy was no simple man. He has left a mark on each person he has met. He was such a blessing to many, and loved by all. The Lord knew his battle and that he had won. It was time for a good man to go home! He was preceded in death and met at the gates by his Mom and Dad and his Sisters. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 62 years Betty; daughters Lisa Barabas and husband Dan, Kelli Cox and husband Chad; Grandchildren Brad Barabas and wife Amber, Kara Lindy and husband Eric and Chad Campbell, five great grandchildren along with his extended family and abundance of friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of Texarkana for their compassionate care. Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Buchanan Methodist Church, with Pastor Keith Ducroz officiating. Interment will be at Chapelwood Cemetery in Nash, Texas under the direction of Bates Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at 10am with Service following at 11 am.
