Dorsey Andrew “Andy” Collins, 87, of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at Great Plains Health Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 29, 1934 in Hope, Arkansas the son of Dorsey and Lillie (Gaines) Collins. Andy grew up in Hope, Arkansas and graduated from Hope High School and attended two years at Magnolia State College. He entered the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War from 1953 to 1957. Andy was stationed in North Platte where he met and married his bride of 66 years, Barbara Ann Kuhlmann on June 3, 1956 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in North Platte. Through their union they were blessed with four children. Andy worked as a salesman for most of his career retiring with Barb to Horseshoe Bay, Texas where they enjoyed golf, and entertaining family and friends. They returned home to North Platte in 2014. An all-around athlete he enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting. Andy shared his love of sports with his family and friends. If he wasn’t coaching or playing he was watching. Those left to cherish Andy’s memory are his wife, Barbara; daughters, Candi (John) Burns of North Platte, Deb Collins (Ken Siemek) of Lincoln, and Merri Jo O’Dell (Tripp Rion) of Georgetown, S.C.; son, Michael (Kathy) Collins of Lincoln; grandchildren, Kassidy (Bryan) Mosher, Shay Burns and her partner Riley Jedrzejczyk, Dane Burns, Zachary Burns and his partner Sierra Perry, Tanner (Maradeth) O’Dell, Ryan O’Dell, Parker (Morgan) Siemek, Andrew and Aden Collins; great-grandchildren, Lilly Mosher, Macie and Jacie Salem, Hank Jedrzejczyk, Silas and Jones O’Dell; brother, Wayne Collins of Texarkana, TX; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin sisters, brother and sister-in-law, William “Bill” (Judy) Collins; and a sister-in-law, Donna Collins. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Daniel Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at Fort McPherson National Veterans Cemetery near Maxwell. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13th with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements. Memorials are suggested to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and school. Carpenter Memorial Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
