Mr. Roy Douglas Akin, age 62, resident of De Queen, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2022, at his home. Doug, as he was known to his family and friends, was born to Roy Joe and Ira LaNell Hammon Akin on Monday, March 28, 1960, in Texarkana, Texas, the youngest of two children. He was a 1978 graduate of Fouke High School and went on to attend Berean Bible College. Doug made his career as a Financial Advisor, working more than fifteen years as the Edward Jones Financial Advisor in De Queen. He married the love of his life, Deborah Kay Phillips, on June 22, 2014, in Horatio, Arkansas. Doug and Debbie were faithful members of the Horatio First Assembly of God, where Doug served as leader of the Adult Sunday School Class. Doug was actively involved with the De Queen Rotary Club for more than fifteen years, having served on the Board of Directors and as Past-President. He was ordained with the Assembly of God Church and honorably served in any capacity when needed. He was immovable in his faith and shared the word of God with everyone he could. Doug enjoyed spending time at church, hunting, and fishing, but best spent his time with his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Joe Akin; and a daughter, Adrienne Butler. Doug leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Debbie Akin of De Queen; his children, Kyle Akin of Los Angeles, California, Malorie Akin of West Monroe, Louisiana, Joshua Butler of Horatio, Vance Butler of Ashdown, Whitney (Kaleb) Murray of Benton, Hunter Hughes of Nashville, and Cecily (Rhett Strang) Hughes of De Queen; his grandchildren, by whom he was lovingly known as “Gramps”, Cohen Butler, Mollie Butler, Addy Butler, Reid Butler, and two soon-to-be grandchildren; his mother, LaNell Akin of Ashdown; his sister, Connie Bolton of Ashdown; his uncle, Carl (Sharon) Akin of Texarkana; niece and nephew, Natalie Smith and Nathan Bolton, both of Texarkana; as well as other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral Services for Mr. Doug Akin will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, July 14, 2022, at the De Queen First Assembly of God Church with Bro. John Gutierres and Sam Young officiating. Interment will follow at the Columbus Community Cemetery in Columbus, Arkansas. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
