Mary Kathleen Griffith, known to friends and family as Kat Tree, passed away on Saturday, July 9th, 2022 at age 67, in Taos, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her father, Herman Darrel Griffith, her mother, Edith Rebecca Bryant Hervey, her brothers; Robert Wayne Hickerson and David Wayne Hickerson, and stillborn daughter Juniper. Kat is survived by her daughters ; Mariah and Chelsea, son: Seth Ephraim Conklin, Sisters; Gayle Norman, Cindi Gourley and Lorena Gayle Latham, brother, Herman Darrell “Scooter” Griffith Jr, granddaughters: Fianna and Chloe, grandson: Jude, and a number of nephews, nieces and great nieces and nephews. Kathleen was born on January 29th, 1955, in Austin, TX to parents Herman Darrell Griffith and Edith Rebecca Bryant. Her early life was split between Long Beach California and the Texarkana, Texas area. She traveled to the southern area of Colorado at age 20 and spent many years in Colorado and New Mexico. She moved back to Texas in 2003 and migrated back to the Colorado and New Mexico area in 2016. Kat was an engaging, truly talented woman who expressed her spirit in creating art, singing her own compositions and playing her 12 string guitar. She also enjoyed cooking, crochet, beadwork, was apprenticed in silverwork, and loved performing in open-mike venues. Her family and friends will always remember her as an “earth mother”, a free-spirited, loving, opinionated and delightfully stubborn person. A graveside memorial is scheduled on July 14th, at 10:00 a.m. at Las Cruces Cemetery in Taos, New Mexico. Services are provided by Rivera Funeral Home.
