Life is a precious gift - unwrap it and delight in it. Life is a present - present it to yourself and share it with others. Life is a dream - enjoy the fantasy leisure of it. Life has its stings - pick yourself up, pray, and survive. Life has its final good-byes - we must all return to our Heavenly Maker and Master. And so it was with Mr. Dennis Ray Jones, Sr., who went to be with his Heavenly Maker and Master on Wednesday, July 13, 2022. He was born to the parentage of MR. Curtis Jones and Mrs. Lois White Jones in Texarkana, TX, on May 15, 1955. Mr. Jones lived in the Sunset community and attended Sunset Elementary School. For his formal education he attended Dunbar Junior High School, and then attended and graduated from Texas High School with the Class of 1973. He played Junior Varsity High School, but his main hobbies were hunting, fishing, cookin, barbecuing, and entertaining his family and friends. He also enjoyed watching sports on TV, and his favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys. Upon deciding to express his belief in God, he attended St. John Baptist Church, which is located in the Sunset Community, and the church that his father’s family attended. He attended Bible Study briefly, and he would “preach” and tell people of his beliefs and interpretations of the do’s and don’ts in his radical, but religious and friendly way. Dennis’ working life was very diverse in that he worked in many different trades and jobs. He worked for the local Coca-Cola plant as a truck driver/distributor; he worked in the justice system as a Correctional Officer and the Rosharon Unit near Houston, TX; the Telford Unit in New Boston, TX; and the local Bi-State Jail. He trained and received his commercial license to drive 18-wheelers for a short time. He was a part-time employee at Richardson Funeral Home; an employee at Tyson Chicken; an employee at Walmart; a journeyman pipefitter in Odessa, TX and Dallas, TX. Last but not least, he worked in security for FEMA in Hope, AR and at the Lone Star Ordnance plant in Hooks, TX. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his mothers, Mrs. Lois A. Lee. He leaves to honor and cherish his memory: his father, Mr. Curtis Jones of Oakland, CA; two sons, Tewaun Jones and Dennis Jones, Jr. of Texarkana, TX; a daughter, LaQuiesa Hill of Redwater, TX; his brother, Dwayne White (Bobbie) of Texarkana, TX; five grandchildren; and a host of wonderful aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, classmates, and friends. Visitation for Mr. Jones will be 5 - 7 PM Thursday at Haynes Mortuary. Funeral services will be 11 AM Friday at Hopewell Temple CME. Online registration is available at www.haynesmortuary.com.
