In the early morning hours of June 1, 2022 Sherry Sue Hammonds Barrett, 77, of Texarkana was called Home to be with our Lord as her time and work here on Earth was complete. Mrs. Barrett was born May 5, 1945 in Old Boston, TX. Inside and out, Mrs. Barrett exuberated love and kindness. As she walked through life, Mrs. Barrett opened her arms to those around her and provided an infectious smile to brighten each day. A devoted member of the Assembly of God, she faithfully and fearlessly served the Lord. Everyone, no matter where they were on their walk in life, was welcome in her home, at her table, and in her heart. In the last four years of her illness, her faith and kindness never wavered. She walked faithfully through her illness, always pointing to the goodness of God. While her pain was constant during these days, she still made it a priority to share her testimony with nurses and caretakers. Mrs. Barrett’s love for Jesus Christ was intensified by her desire to be used for His Glory. On June 2, 1962 she married her “Darling”, Dale Barrett, and was blessed with four wonderful children. Her greatest passion was passing on knowledge and scripture to her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Barrett was preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Kerri Dell Barrett and her parents, Olene and Winfred Hammonds. Survivors include her husband, Dale Barrett of Texarkana, Texas; two daughters and one son-in-law, Sherri Stokes of DeKalb, Texas, Terri and Greg Giles of Texarkana, Arkansas; one son, Kyle Barrett of Texarkana, Texas; three grandchildren Morgan Stokes, Ashley Coleman, and Merrit Giles; one great-grandchild Penelope Giles. Services will be 3:00 P.M. Friday, June 3, 2022 at First Baptist Church DeKalb, Texas with the Rev. Roy Ford and Rev. Steven Minter officiating. Private family burial will be at Hubbard Cemetery under the direction of Bates Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Scottish Rite for Children 2222 Welborn Street Dallas, TX 75219.
