Mr. Joseph Steve “Smitty” Smith, Sr., 80, of Dallas, Texas and formerly of Texarkana, AR transitioned Wednesday, June 22, 2022 in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Smith was born November 6, 1941 in Fulton, AR to the late Robert Steve Smith, Sr. and Inoima Webb Smith. He attended Booker T. Washington High School. After high school he worked as a chef . Mr. Smith was a Baptist and was married to the late Carrie Lott and to this union four children were born. He moved to Dallas, Texas and then to Houston Texas and was employed as a Diesel Mechanic for “J.B.” Hunt Trucking line. He worked there until he retired and then relocated back to Dallas. Preceding him in death was his parents; his wife, Carrie Lott Smith in 1994; two sons, Joseph Steve Smith, Jr. and Richard Smith; brothers, Edward Donelson, Jr. and Robert Steve Smith, Jr. Monday, June 27, 2022 at 6 p.m., in the state of Alabama, Joseph sister, Margaret transitioned after him. Survivors includes, two sons, Jackie Robinson, Texarkana and Tom Ray Burks, Minneapolis, MN both of Texarkana; daughters, Patricia Stewart, Texarkana, Marie Webb (Walter) and Juanita Anderson all of Minneapolis, MN and Lisa Brown of Dallas; brothers, James Smith, Dallas, and William Donelson, Texarkana; sisters, Bettie A. Huntley and Marva (Mika) Simpson, all of Texarkana and Helen Elaine Donelson Henry, Dallas,’ eighteen grandchildren; fourteen great -grandchildren and number of other relatives. Visitation hours for Mr. Smith will be Friday, 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Lyles Funeral Home, Inc. A Celebration of Mr. Smith life will be 11:00 AM Saturday, July 2, 2022 at Lyles Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Elder Donald Vaughn officiating.
