Melba “Jean” Dyer (87) was born June 16, 1934 in Miller County, Arkansas. She passed peacefully on March 18, 2022 at her home in Red Lick, Texas. Jean was a devout Christian and an extremely talented artist who specialized in oil paintings. She could always find inspiration and beauty in the world around her. She loved tending to her gardens, crocheting, and reading but nothing was more special to her than spending time with her family and friends. She spent her life mastering a variety of jobs but some of her most meaningful work came from serving others. She enjoyed her years spent working as a copywriter for Channel 6 TV Station but her true passion came from years spent as a children’s Sunday school teacher, a doctor’s assistant for several Physicians around Texarkana, and a private caregiver for the elderly. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Marie Hill of Doddridge, Arkansas; three brothers, Edward Hill of Doddridge, Arkansas, Ernest “Dee” Hill of Magnolia, Texas, and James Hill of Spring, Texas; and three sisters in law, Alma Hill of Doddridge, Arkansas, Erline Hill of Magnolia, Texas, and Betty Hill of Holland, Texas. She is survived by one brother, Charles Hill of Holland, Texas; two sisters in law, Laverne “Tootsie” Hill of Spring, Texas and Barbara Hill of Holland, Texas; two sons and daughters in law, Steve and Dewayla Dyer of Texarkana, Texas and Darrell and Suzanne Dyer of Allen, Texas; four grandchildren, Ilene McKenna of Allen, Texas, Denise Dyer of Texarkana, Texas, Holly Smith of Texarkana, Texas, and Eric Dyer of Texarkana, Texas; five great-grandchildren; plus a host of beloved nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to Hospice of Texarkana, Red River Home Health, and specifically Euralene Duckett and Mary Nowlin for the exceptional and compassionate care they gave, allowing Jean to remain home with family. Services will be held in person and live streamed at Chapelwood Funeral Home Friday, April 1, 2022 at 1:00 p.m.
