We have been blessed by 103 years of Jewell Rose Gwyn Lloyd’s life. She passed peacefully into heaven to be with her Lord and family on Monday, March 21, 2022. The family will receive visitors Friday, April 1, 2022, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Texarkana Funeral Home, Texarkana, Texas. A Celebration of Life service will be held in the First Baptist Church Moore’s Lane Sanctuary, Texarkana, Texas on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at 2:00 pm. Jewell Rose was born January 8, 1919 in Texarkana Ark. to the late, Dennis and Lula Rose. The Rose family was an anchor in the Shiloh community and church. Jewell was rightfully named, she was the “Jewell” of the family. She attended Ouachita Baptist College and graduated from Arkansas State Teachers College with a degree in Home Economics. She also graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Masters Degree in Religion in 1947. In 1946, she married Rev Richard L. Gwyn. They pastored churches and enjoyed serving the Lord. They were blessed with 3 children, Richard, Rosemary and Rachel. Jewell enjoyed teaching on several levels. However, she loved the innocence and wonder of small children and enjoyed teaching the primary grades most. After a 30-year career, she retired in 1983. In 1984 she married Phillip Lloyd. They traveled the United States visiting family, friends and working with Campers On Mission. Jewell and Phil had servant hearts and shared the Word of God building churches with Campers on Mission. Jewell was kind, funny, smart and loving, and sometimes strict and bossy, and we loved her so. Her deep faith intertwined in all aspects of her life. Her favorite saying was “Always Be Kind”. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Moore’s Lane, Willing Workers Sunday School Class, American Business Women’s Association (ABWA), Wake Village Garden Club and Pleasant Grove Story League. Jewell loved singing and gardening and was an avid Lawrence Welk fan. She loved her family and friends unconditionally. She adored her children, bonus children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She never met a stranger and loved to tell stories about her incredible life. During her 103 years, Jewell touched many lives and will be greatly missed. Many people have often asked, “What do you attribute your longevity to?” She would always say: “Sing every day, be kind, count your blessings and always keep God in your heart.” She was preceded in death by her parents Dennis and Lula Rose, 6 brothers and their wives, 2 sisters and husband. Also preceded in death by her husband’s Dr. Richard L. Gwyn, Phillip N. Lloyd and stepdaughters Deela Lloyd Dyck and JoAnna Lloyd Remmes. To cherish her memory are her son Richard A.
