EVELYN BRYANT

Evelyn Annette Bryant, age 83, returned to her heavenly Father on Thursday, May 5, 2022 when her 12 year courageous struggle with multiple myeloma ended. Evelyn was born in Tyler, Texas to Joseph W. and Juanita Maud Leggett. Her childhood was spent in Tyler and then in Texarkana, Texas. During her first marriage, she proudly became the mother of Gregory Teeters. Evelyn married Walter David Bryant in Denison on January 17, 1984. and gained a bonus son, becoming the mother of David’s son Lance Bryant. She graduated from Texas High School in Texarkana, University of Houston Law School, and Texas Women’s University in Denton Texas. She practiced law in Houston, and then in the Sherman - Denison area for fifteen years. After getting her master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology, she changed careers and found great satisfaction practicing speech therapy for fifteen years in Grayson County, touching many lives. Evelyn will always be remembered by her beautiful smile and her love of serving others. She served as an elder of the First Presbyterian Church. She was a brilliant musician, serving as church organist and pianist for many years. She was also active in many civic organizations including Lion’s Club, League of Women Voters, and was a certified Master Naturalist. Evelyn was very adventurous. She attended a two-week National Outdoor Leadership course, hiking and camping in the Wind River Mountains in Wyoming. She loved travelling with David. They enjoyed many trips to Europe where they travelled with a Eurail pass and no hotel reservations. They took other trips to China, Alaska, Mexico and several Caribbean countries. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Robert Leggett. Evelyn is survived by her husband David; son Gregory and wife Elizabeth; her dear friend Kay Brewer; sister Jeanette Gammill and husband Ronnie; brother Joe Leggett and wife Diane; brother in law Steve Bryant and wife Janice; sister in law Tonya Bryant; grandchildren Jim, Ria, Bethany, and Victoria; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog Sam. A memorial service for Evelyn will be held on June 4, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church in Denison at 11:30 a.m. The family has requested that instead of flowers, memorial gifts be given to First Presbyterian Church in Denison, or to whatever is meaningful for you.
