March 18, 1933 - November 22, 2022 Our beloved Mom, Ba, Baz, Bazie died peacefully the morning of November 22, 2022 of natural causes. Mary Maddox Collom was born March 18, 1933 in Texarkana Hospital in Texarkana, TX. Her grandfather Spencer Allen Collom, Sr. MD was one of the founding doctors of the hospital. Texarkana Hospital evolved into Wadley Regional Medical Center. Mary was the only child of Mary Evelyn Maddox and Spencer Allen Collom, Jr. MD and granddaughter of Lara Ellen Wilson (Nellie), Finis Ewing Maddox, Eugene Read and Spencer Allen Collom, Sr. MD. Mary graduated from Texas High School in 1951. She served on the yearbook committee and she was a member of the National Honor Society. This was the beginning of a lifetime of serving the community and organizing and planning events. Mary has always been close to the members of her high school class. She helped throughout the years with many class reunions. Mary went to the University of Arkansas and pledged Pi Beta Phi. Mary continued throughout her life to be active with Phi Beta Phi. After graduation, Mary married Samuel Abraham Buchanan. They had three children, Allen Collom Buchanan (Carla), John William Buchanan (Sandy) and Mary Anne Buchanan Lachowsky (Thomas). They later divorced in 1971. Mary has 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and special cousin Michael Maddox. On March 26, 1994 she married the love of her life Max Holman Fore. Mary and Max enjoyed being with family and traveling together. They remained married until Max’s death in 2008. Mary enjoyed serving her community in many ways. She was Outstanding Sustainer for the Jr. League, a Cub Scout leader, president of the Sue Sanderson Garden Club, was voted Woman of the Year of the Port of Shreve Chapter of ABWA in Shreveport, served as president of the YWCA, was given the Pi Beta Phi Evelyn Peters Kyle award, was a member of the Wadley Foundation Board, served the board for Women of the Arts, and she was president of The Texarkana Museums Systems Guild. The Museum now has an award named the “Mary Collom Fore Award for Volunteerism”. Mary said this was the most prestigious award she ever received. In 1970, Mary was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had a mastectomy and was a brave cancer survivor. Mary credited her optimistic attitude for getting her through this difficult time in her life. Mary was always busy creating art, serving her community, attending church at St. James Episcopal Church and going to Texarkana Country Club with her Thursday night Good Group. But as busy as Mary was, she always made time for her family. For example, she made each of her grandchildren a scrapbook detailing their lives. She, along with Max, traveled all over the United States attending numerous graduations, award ceremonies and weddings for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Rest in peace, Mom, Ba, Baz, Bazie. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 29 from 5pm to 7pm at East Funeral Home Downtown. After a private burial, services will be Wednesday, November 30th at 2pm at St James Episcopal Church. Memorials can be made to Hospice of Texarkana and St James Episcopal Church or any charity of your choice. Special thanks to Hospice of Texarkana and her faithful caregiver, Lynn Estes. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.eastfuneralhomes.com for the Sava family.
