James McGough Jr., age 77, of Atlanta, Texas, went to be with the Lord Thursday, October 6, 2022, in a Texarkana, Texas hospital. James was born November 6, 1944, in Ashdown, Arkansas, to James Sr. and Gertrude McGough. He was formerly employed with Superior Realty; a member of Smyrna Baptist Church; and served in the Texas National Guard. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren; loved his tractor and loved spending time around the house “piddling”. He was preceded in death by his step-son, Michael Hall; sisters, Daisy Cook and Velma Griffin; his parents and numerous half-siblings. James is survived by his wife, Susan McGough of Atlanta, Texas; children, Melynda Maxey and husband Darrell of Fort Worth, Texas, Greta McGough of Torrington, Wyoming, Eric McGough and wife Leigh of Tennessee, Rachel Swanson and husband Joseph of Atlanta, Texas; sisters, Beulah Jester of Dallas, Texas, Jean Thomas of Atlanta, Texas, Pat Carroll of Atlanta, Texas, Jewel Brown of Marietta, Texas, Shirley Heldt of Atlanta, Texas; grandchildren, Jennifer Hopper, Hope Thompson, Alexis Inskeep, Jarrett Mitchell, Christopher Tyson, Marissa Tyson, Hugh Tyson, Ian Swanson; step-grandchildren, Callie Swanson, Gavin Swanson, Jordan Swanson, Will Swanson; great-grandchildren, Colton James Hopper, Savannah Eileen Hopper; and a number of other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Monday, October 10, 2022, at Smyrna Baptist Church, under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service with Brother Gene Parker officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, October 9, 2022, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Hanner Funeral Service. Interment will be in Beech Creek Cemetery. Guest registry is available at www.hannerfuneralservice.com.
