FORT WORTH - Hazel (Nan) Stephens lost her battle with recurrences of breast cancer on October 7, 2022. She was a Christian, a devoted mom and grandmother as well as a friend to all that knew her. She was an active member at Lighthouse Fellowship and enjoyed her Freedom Space bible study group. Celebration of Life: 12:00 pm. Wednesday, October 12 at Greenwood Chapel followed by interment in Greenwood Memorial Park. Hazel (Nan) was born on December 31, 1935 in Texarkana, Texas to Horace and Hazel Reed, the youngest of four children. She was raised by her mother and step-dad, Jack Barnes, in Texarkana. At 17 she married William H. Stephens on February 1, 1953. As a military family she made every move seem like an adventure for her children always teaching them about the state and culture they lived in and often having to fill the role of both parents while her husband was deployed. She enjoyed skiing, sledding, camping, salmon fishing, smelt dipping and even potato picking. The family moved back to Fort Worth after retiring from military life. Her joy of being “Nan” to her eight grandchildren kept her busy through the years. She retired from the business office of Osteopathic Medical Center in 1998. She was an avid game player and in later years she was often found playing BINGO with her friends at Town & Country and Westside Family in Fort Worth. She never missed the chance to spend time with her family. She enjoyed her crazy bunch and was always at her happiest at family gatherings watching her great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Stacy Stephens; her parents, Hazel and Jack Barnes, and Horace Reed. She is survived by her former husband, William H. Stephens; their children: son, Mark Stephens of Weatherford, daughter and son in law, Karen and Randy Osborn of Aledo; the joy of her heart her eight grandchildren, Jeremy, Angela, Melissa, Bryan, Daniel, Sonya, Trey, Shelley; 23 great grandchildren; and her four legged companions, Lance and Lucky. The family would like to extend their deep gratitude to the nurses, doctors and staff at Heart to Heart Inpatient Hospice. Donations in Hazel’s name can be made to Heart to Heart Foundation, 7240 Chase Oaks Blvd Plano, Tx 75025.
