Mollie Franklin

Longtime Richardson Schools Kindergarten teacher Mollie Franklin passed away at age 83 after a difficult battle with cancer. Mollie had a 40 year career which included serving Spring Creek and Spring Valley elementary schools. She was beloved by her students and their parents. The children always looked forward to special events in her classes (such as the annual Rodeo in which the class mirrored the events of the rodeo in Ft. Worth). Each unique day was special in her classroom. Mollie is survived by her husband of 46 years, James Franklin, brother and sister in law Ramon and Carolyn Bukhair, Geneva Alvis, sister in law, and a host of nieces and nephews from the Buckhair and Alvis families. Mollie always enjoyed participating in both children and adults birthdays, graduations and special events. She and James loved their families. Mollie was a faithful Christian who sang in church choir, ensembles and solo performances. She particularly enjoyed the Goldenaires choir at First Baptist Church in Richardson and looked forward to their performances. She was a member of the Bridge Builders church school class, Richardson Retired Teachers organization, Richardson Women’s Club, and Footnotes Book Club. Mollie had a knack for entertaining (both in her home and organizing special events at the church). She enjoyed and excelled with her cooking and entertaining. She loved to bake homemade bread for her family, friends and her bridge partners. Some would say that bridge playing was her biggest hobby along with going to estate sales and collecting several hundred Christmas Santa Claus ornaments and figures. If Mollie was your friend, you were a friend for life. She kept in touch with high school friends from Atlanta, Texas and from Lon Morris College and North Texas State University. She completed her formal education with a Master’s Degree from Colorado State University and taught for several years in Arvada, Colorado. She and James enjoyed traveling and visited several countries during their time together. She viewed travel as a way to see the world after growing up in a small East Texas town. Mollie was raised by her faithful Mother, Eleanor Bukhair and lived with her grandparents, Bessie and George Smith in Atlanta. Graveside services will be 11:00 am, September 24, 2022 at Laws Chapel Cemetery with a reception to follow at the church.
