AIDA COX

Aida L Cox, age 83, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at Wadley Regional Medical Center. Aida was born March 31, 1939 to Agapito and Maria Jimenez as the first of 5 children in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. In 1959, Aida met, fell in love with and married Chester Cox in a Catholic ceremony. After moving to the Mainland with Chester in 1960, Aida gave birth to 3 children (Chester, Jr. in 1961, Marion in 1962 and Mathew in 1965). Aida and Chester loved each other and remained married for the rest of their lives…over 61 years. Aida was a stay-at-home Mom until her youngest child started school. Then she started back to school eventually earning a Masters Degree in Education with honors. Aida began her teaching career by substituting at Liberty-Eylau, then taught at Ashdown, but most of her teaching career was spent at Fouke ISD. After retiring from teaching, Aida became the owner of Vijito’s Restaurant in Texarkana and worked with her 2 sons until she officially retired in 2006 at the age of 67. Aida loved to read, learn, teach, fish and travel with her family. In all things, Aida was guided by her faith and unconditional love. Aida was preceded in death by her husband Chester; her parents; all her siblings except one, her sister, Milda; 2 of her grandchildren, Matthew, Jr. and Chloe; and most of her circle of friends her age. Aida leaves to cherish her memory her children, Chester, Jr., Marion and Matthew; 2 daughters-in-law, Michelle and Pam; 2 granddaughters, Courtney and Corey along with their husbands, Justin and Shane; 3 great-granddaughters, Lyla Faye, Cameryn and Landry; nephews, Anthony and Ramon Jimenez with their wives and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 17, 2023 at Chapelwood Funeral Home in Nash, Texas officiated by Rev. Wallace Edgar. Burial will be at Chapelwood Memorial Gardens under the direction of Chapelwood Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 16, 2023 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Chapelwood Funeral Home.
