Ex-inmate in Dallas Jail-based drug ring gets 30 years in prison

DALLAS-A former Dallas County jail inmate who had a romantic relationship with a probation official has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for running a drug ring from his cell.

Patrick D. Lenard was sentenced Friday in Dallas.

The 34-year-old Dallas man last year pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine, heroin and marijuana. Lenard also pleaded guilty to kidnapping in a drug-related carjacking and abduction.

Ex-probation official Selena Ball of DeSoto pleaded guilty to conspiring to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance and was sentenced last fall to eight years in prison. Prosecutors say Ball failed to report probation violations by Lenard following his release.
