Office Depot offers program for recycling of old binders

With Office Depot's binder recycling program, shoppers can bring in any old, empty binder and receive a $2 discount off a same-day binder purchase.

Many binders get tossed in the garbage after each school year. However, Terracycle recycles the binders, reducing waste that would otherwise go into a landfill. Office Depot and Terracycle want to help costumers participate in making resources more sustainable.

"We're excited to partner with Terracycle this back-to-school season as parents, teachers and students prepare for the school year with new supplies," said Ron Lalla, executive vice president of merchandising for Office Depot Inc. "The program offers a way to recycle binders in an environmentally conscious way while also offering a discount to shoppers who are looking for new ones."

Chris Eldred, customer service manager at Office Depot in Texarkana, said the store is participating.

"Customers bring the binders in if they want to recycle them," he said. "There is a bin here up front, close to the registers. They can drop the binders off there. When we get a certain amount, we call Terracycle, and they come and pick them up."

Binder recycling is available at the store on Richmond Ranch Road during business hours: 8 a.m to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m to 6 p.m. Sunday.
