The investigation started July 2 when Deputy Russell Crawford received a call about animal abuse in the 13000 block of U.S. Highway 82 West in DeKalb.

A business owner told the deputy about finding empty beer cans on the property, and on the business security camera footage, he said could see two males chasing a puppy around the yard, tossing it and hitting the puppy with a two-by-four, Chief Deputy Jeff Neal said.

Authorities said the video shows the two males tossing the puppy around and throwing rocks at it.

A few days later, the suspects were identified, and the information was given to Deputy Westin Fannin.

The information was presented to Judge Nancy Talley, who issued arrest warrants for both suspects. Alan Cole Willis, 20, and a juvenile male were arrested and charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals.

Willis turned himself in July 13. He was booked into the Bi-State Justice Building jail, where Talley set his bond at $15,000. The juvenile turned himself in July 14 at the juvenile detention center.
