Texas High triumph in match: Lady Tigers sweep Pleasant Grove

There was fire and ice at the crosstown volleyball rivalry match Tuesday.

Texas High swept Pleasant Grove, 25-13, 25-21, 25-16, at Hawk Gym.

"I am ecstatic," Lady Tiger head coach Melissa Hardy said. "The girls played really good tonight, they came in fired up, and they executed; that is what we were looking for."

At one point, Pleasant Grove was down 10-0 in set two, but kept its cool to come back to tie the set at 21-all before Texas High finished it out.

"We are still working on jelling, but for them to come back and work hard in set two is something we need to do in the first set," Lady Hawk head coach Amy Collvins said. "Overall, I think we did well. We have a lot of growing room, but I'm proud of them."

Texas High finished with fire in the first set. After six ties early on, the Tigers broke away at 10-8 after Kaitlyn Cross sent a kill down the right baseline. A point later, Texas High scored four straight to make it 14-10.

Later in the set, Anderson hit a kill down the back baseline, and Texas High committed a hitting error to knot the set at 21-all.
