Excitement at the end of the Texarkana Open

The final day of the Texarkana Children Charities Open, part of the All Pro Tour, concluded Saturday at the Texarkana Country Club.

Joshua Creel came from two shots behind to win the tournament.

"I double-bogeyed on No. 10 to go back to 11-under for the day and Trent Whitekiller was five ahead of me at that point," Creel said. "I quit looking at the scoreboard. When I finished on No. 18, they told me I was tied for the lead. I didn't believe them at first.

"Honestly, I didn't look at the scorecard because I didn't think I would be near it. I wasn't thinking about the lead."

Creel finished the tournament 14-under par.

Trent Whitekiller finished tied for second and shot 13-under par for the tournament.

Texarkana native Zach Fischer tied for fifth place and a shot 12-under par for the tournament.

The APT chose Northridge Country Club and Texarkana Country Club, because of the proximity and hospitality that both venues offer.

Kris Corbett, All Pro Tour Tournament Director, explained that the success of this year's event will open the opportunity for more tournaments in the future.

"We had a great turnout this year," Corbett said. "This has been a fantastic week and the weather has been really nice. By the amount of fans that are here today, I'd say it's definitely generated some interest.

"Hopefully, we can add Texarkana as a stop for the Women's All Pro Tour next year. Everywhere we've been has been overly hospitable. Most of our players are from this south central location, so it was easily accessible for everyone and Texarkana is big enough that it has everything our players may need. This has been one of our best stops of the season.

Texarkana native and current Baylor Bear, Garrett May, also played in the event, with TCC being his home course. May finished the tournament 12-under par.

"It was a great opportunity for me to compete against some really good guys," May said. "Any opportunity I have to play in tournament conditions, I try to do so. This was a wonderful experience for me heading into my senior season. I learned a lot about myself and my game this week."
