The 1894 Gallery downtown will hold a special show Friday, July 13, where artists will showcase how they see their brothers and sisters in the craft.

It's Artists Visualizing Artists, held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. that night. The art will also be shown at the gallery the next day at the Second Saturday Trade Days.

The brainchild of local artist Danny Helms, the AVA Show features art where Texarkana-area artists have depicted, in some way, fellow artists. Those artists could be painters, singers, sculptors or whatever the case may be. There's no entry fee, no awards, just a chance for fellowship, Helms said.

"My ideal was to have the group of artists do a painting, a drawing, anything representing another artist, to represent them how you kind of see them," Helms said. It could be abstract, a drawing, photograph, sculpture or whatever mode the artist decides. Most of the artists represented, he suspects, will be local.

"It's a fun thing," Helms said. The only stipulation that was that it would be tasteful. Artists have worked on these pieces for several months. There's at least one elementary age student who's participating.

"It's open to anyone that wants to bring anything as long as it's family-suitable for viewing," Helms said, adding, "We just didn't want any rules."

"I really would like more of the public to come and meet the artists, talk to them," Helms said. He's been able to see some of these art pieces online. "I'm hoping we have at least 10 pieces or so, 10 to a dozen pieces," he said. The works will be on hand at least through that weekend.

Helms is excited to see what artists came up with in their projects. He worked on portraits of artists Joel Wright and Jasi Hernandez.

Georgia Hubnik's gallery is the home for this show. She's looking forward to this chance to bring the public into the gallery. Her contribution will be a photograph of local artist Rick Stone.

"I think it's fantastic because we really want to be involved with the community, let people know what we're about," Hubnik said.

Refreshments will be served at the show reception, which is also a good chance to see the types of art displayed at the 1894 Gallery.
