Wake Village fills vacancies, OKs funds for retail, engineering plans

Wake Village City Council members agreed Monday to fill two vacancies on the city's Economic Development Committee.

Council members agreed to appoint Wake Village residents Joe Black and Justin Powell to the committee, Wake Village Mayor Sheryl Collum said.

In other business, council members agreed to hire the Texarkana, Texas-based Murray, Thomas and Griffin Engineering firm and pay the firm $6,500 in economic development funds. The money will allow the firm to spend two months putting together a U.S. Highway 67 Corridor Master Plan for future commercial development. They further agreed to pay MTG Engineering $49,000 in committee funds to spend seven months producing a computerized map of the city's water and sewer lines.

The council also agreed pay Austin, Texas-based Retail Coach $32,500 to spend a year creating a Retail and Recruitment and Development Plan that will focus on showcasing the city's demographics and trading areas for potential future retail attraction.
