Arkansas Titans top Ada to claim 2nd Texarkana title this month

As the water tower looms over Spring Lake Park, the saying "Twice As Nice" proved to have meaning for the Arkansas Titans.

The Titans, who also were the victors of the Brandon Warren Memorial Tournament earlier this month, came back to Texarkana this weekend to claim a 4-3 win over the Ada Braves in the Phil Sandoval Memorial Tournament championship game on Sunday at George Dobson Field.

Starting on the hill for the Titans was Trevor Wells. The Genoa Central hurler pitched a complete game, while striking out six and scattering six hits.

After striking out three in the first inning, Wells seemed to struggle a bit in the second inning as he allowed two runs on just two hits, but settled down the rest of the way to post the win.

Ada's Ryan Makerney hit an RBI-double to the gap in right field to score Reece Bankston, who reached on a walk, and later scored on a single hit by Randus Gray.

The Titans answered with two runs of their own in the third when a Gage Harris sacrifice fly and a Garret Mayhan single scored Jace Turner and Jesus MinJarez. Turner reached base on a walk and MinJarez connected on one of his two singles.

In the fourth inning, Arkansas added two more runs to take a 4-2 lead, which would be a safe score rest of the way.

Justin Scott and Brady Prince both drew walks to lead off the frame and with great hussle on an infield single by MinJarez, the duo were able to get home with no throw.

Going into the final frame still holding on to the two-run advantage, the Titans got off to a shaky start and allowed a run.

Tre Blue got the Braves back on the board with an RBI-double to the left-field gap, but the rally would fall shy as Wells forced three popups to end the contest.

MinJarez, Mayhan and Ben Muldoon each led the Titans with two hits apiece.

Ada's Randus Gray went a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate, with two singles and a double. Micah Edwards pitched three innings for the Braves, while striking out four, walking five and allowing two runs on just four hits.
