PG baseball team beats Atlanta

ATLANTA, Texas-Pleasant Grove defeated Atlanta, 6-2, in varsity baseball action Tuesday on the Rabbits home diamond.

Nick Voyles received the win on the bump for the Hawks.

Keaton Russo led the Hawks at the dish with two hits and an RBI, while teammate Ben Harmon slapped an RBI-double.

Tucker Anderson added a double for PG and teammate Seth Hopkins collected a hit as well.

The Hawks are back in action at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Evangel Christian Academy tournament in Shreveport, La.

 

TRACK AND FIELD

Tiger JV girls win

MARSHALL, Texas-Texas High's girls won first place and the Tiger boys were fourth in the Maverick Junior Varsity track and field meet hosted Monday by Marshall High School.

The Lady Tigers JV team totaled 141 points to outdistance runner-up Longview, which had 121. Nacogdoches was a distant third with 72.

Texas High's JV boys ran up 94 points, finishing behind Longview (121), Nacogdoches (108) and Lufkin (105).

Eight school competed in the two-division meet at Maverick Stadium.

Bobbie Hatchett won three individual events and ran on a first-place relay for the Tigers' winning girls squad. She took both hurdles (110 meters, 16.60) and (300 meters, 52.76) and also won the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 8 inches.

Hatchett also ran the second leg on the winning 4x400 relay, which ran a 4:32.18. Other team members were Valeria Perez, Daniyah Anderson and Vanessa Perez.

The Tigers also won the 4X200 relay in 1:53.87, with Perez, Britney Ankton, Anderson and Perez running on the team. THS was second in the 4X100 relay.

Valeria Perez placed second in the 800 with a 2:38 timing.

Sydney Rowe took the gold in the 200, racing to a 27.50 clocking. She also was second in the 100.

On the boys side, Tiger Malachi Rachal had the team's only first place in the 100 meters, with a winning time of 10.97. Rachal also was runner-up in the 200 (23.26).

Texas High's Caden Miller had a pair of second-place finishes in the 110 hurdles (17.05) and 300 hurdles (44.77). Tim Hopkins was runner-up in the triple jump with a leap of 38-5.
